Due to its extension, it is known in Piedmont by the nickname "Provincia Granda" or, more simply, "La Granda" (i.e., The Large One).

The mineral grandaite has been named after this informal appellation of the province, where the type locality (Valletta mine) is located.

Description: Giuseppe Finello in July 2021: "I did several EDS analyzes on "chlorite" samples from Montoso and Luserna and in all the samples analyzed, iron prevails over magnesium. I did not go beyond the investigations but I am convinced that in the mining complex of the Luserna stone, chamosite is clearly prevalent over clinochlore. Indeed I would be led to think that the clinochlore is not present. The sample of the photo has not been analyzed but considering the mentioned analyses I think there are no doubts: it is chamosite." Barresi on yellowish crystals similar to those originally described by Bianco et al. have always shown that the mineral is titanite (Piccoli, 2002; Piccoli et al., 2007).
