Named in honour of the mineral collector Fabrizio Castellaro who has discovered castellaroite, but also balestraite, cerchiaraite-(Fe) and lavinskyite-1M.
Structurally related to metaswitzerite.
A higher hydrate (octahydrate) is manganohörnesite.
