The Dora-Maira Massif extends from the Susa Valley (Metropolitan City of Turin) in the north to the Maira Valley (Cuneo Province) in the south, over a length of ⁓ 70 km.

It constitutes one of the Internal Crystalline Massifs of the Western Alps and belong to the distal part of the Briançonnais palaeomargin (Schmid et al. 2004; Handy et al. 2010; Ballèvre et al. 2020; Michard et al. 2022; Manzotti and Ballèvre 2022). It is made of slices of Palaeozoic basement and minor remnants of dismembered Mesozoic covers.
