Named by C. Lundström in 1874 from the Greek κορύινος meaning "in error", not from καρύινος meaning "nut-brown coloured" in allusion to its colour. The original spelling was changed by Edward Dana in 1892.
Alluaudite Group.

Chemically very similar to manganberzeliite.
Compare also the chemically similar piccoliite.
