Name:
Named after Canosio, a small municipality where the type locality, the Valletta mine, is located.
The Ba analogue of arsenbrackebuschite and the As (or arsenate) analogue of gamagarite.
Chemically related to dussertite and bariopharmacosiderite. Enriched in Mn3+ and V, which is suggestible for series formation with tokyoite; canosioite stands for the Fe-As analogue of the latter.

The associated muscovite is a Mn-bearing variety (bronze in colour).
