Description

Regional metamorphism associated with burial, alteration, and uplift of thick accumulations of sediments, volcanic rocks, and intrusive igneous rocks. Most regional metamorphic rocks formed at depth under an average geothermal gradient of >15 to ~30 °C/km.

Stage 5: Initiation of plate tectonics - Age: <3.5-2.5 Ga
