Named by H.R. Keusen and T. Peters in 1980 in honor of Heinrich Preiswerk (19 May 1876 - 24 March 1940), professor in Basel, Switzerland. He spent 30 years mapping the Simplon-Binntal region and the mountains of Ticino.
A relative rare sodic trioctahedral mica.
