Virunga Massif; Birunga volcanics


A large recent volcanic field that extends into Uganda and Rwanda, but the greater part is within Congo in the Western Rift.

The field comprises eight volcanic ranges: Mount Nyiragongo, Mount Nyamurangira, Mount Mikeno in the DR Congo; Mount Bisoke, Mount Karisimbi on the border with Rwanda; and Mount Muhavura, Mount Sabyinyo, Mount Gahinga on the border with Uganda and Rwanda.
