A cobalt-copper mine operated during the period 1941-1945. Owned by the Nippon Cobalt Mining Co. and/then the Mitsui Mining Co. Ore is a contact deposit between Paleozoic limestone and granite porphyry. Output was 392 tons. Includes Eboshi and Yoboshi orebodies.
Mining for copper was begun in the eighth century and supplied the copper for the Buddha casting at Todai-ji.
