A former Au-Ag-Cu-Pb-Zn occurrence/mine located in sec. 30, T10S, R2W, SLM, 1.1 km (0.7 mile) ENE of Tintic (3,000 feet S68W of Mammoth Peak; head of canyon W of Mammoth; on E slope of Mammoth Peak), on private land. Owned by the Gold Chain Mining Company C/O E. Steele McIntyre, Eureka, Utah. Operated by the Mammoth Mining Co. (1930). MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated.

Mineralization is a Pliocene polymetallic vein/gossan deposit hosted in the Ajax Dolomite, Opex Formation. The ore body is 609.6 meters in length. Controls for ore emplacement included N-trending fissures with NE off-shoots. It strikes N to W of the Mammoth pipe. Local alteration includes contact metamorphism. Local rocks include Silurian carbonate rocks in central Utah.

Local geologic structures include horizontal ore shoots along bedding planes.

Workings include underground openings with a length of 1,609.3 meters, an overall depth of 304.8 meters and an overall length of 609.6 meters, and consist of a 220 foot adit with a 40 foot winze. 200 feet N is an open cut with a 40 foot adit. 1,500 feet E is a 70 foot adit. An old shaft is caved into the stopes & is considered dangerous. The Ajax adit is 400 feet from the portal (?). Explored during 1926 from the 1,800 level (?) of the Lower Mammoth.

$3,000,000 (period values) in production from the Ajax and Gold Chain mines during the period 1899 to 1917 (Cu-Ag-Au).

Analytical data results: 0.6 ounce Au; 2 to 14 ounces Ag; 2 to 8% Cu; 50 to 70% Si; 1% Zn.
