Following the reorganisation of 1996, the three Unitary Authorities of Rhondda Cynon Taff, Bridgend and Merthyr Tydfil and were formed from the administrative county of Mid Glamorgan.

Mid Glamorgan was itself only formed during the 1974 reorganisation and was previously part of the traditional county of Glamorgan, which dates back to the middle ages.

Mineral specimens from locations within this section may, therefore, be labeled as coming from Rhondda-Cynon-Taff, Mid Glamorgan or Glamorgan depending upon the time they were collected.
