The subdivision of Peru was officially changed from Departments to Regions 2002 (see, e.g., wikipedia.org).

The departments were identical to today's regions, with the exception of two new regions (Callao and Lima). Before the 2002 changeover, the province of Lima (which is basically the city of Lima) was part of the Lima department, and the city of Callao had the special status of Provincia Constitucional (constitutional province). When the regionalization law was passed, the Callao region was created from the former constitutional province, and the province of Lima separated from the rest of the Lima department, which in turn came to form the new Lima Region. A failed attempt to divide the country into twelve autonomous regions was made during the 1980s under the government of Alan García (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Administrative_divisions_of_Peru).

The EDS of this specimen shows it to contain copper and so it is toward the aikinite end of the series. This specimen contains no silver so it is not in the gustavite-lillianite series.

Habit: Prismatic.
Description: Recent XRD indicated the presence of chalcostibite crystals, accompanied by bournonite and tetrahedrite. Joan Rosell ref. analytical RM3900. Gray prismatic crystals like a perimorphosis. SEM-EDS analysis indicated that the elongated prismatic crystals with polysynthetic growths on the faces and hopper shapes (perimorphosis?) were a copper sulfoantimonide, with some bismuth and arsenic. This composition and its percentages correspond to chalcostibite, and the Bi would indicate the series with emplectite. Chalcostibite was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Other crystals showed prisms with faces striated and truncated by the pinacoid. Their analysis indicated that it was a copper-lead sulfoantimonide, with traces of Bi, consistent with twinned bournonite, a species also confirmed by XRD. On the matrix we observe crystals with tetrahedron shapes, sometimes flattened. XRD indicated the presence of tetrahedrite. SEM-EDS analysis of small crystals associated with chalcostibite indicated that it could be tetrahedrite-(Zn), with possible argentotetrahedrite-(Zn).
