Talampaya National Park is a national park located in the east/centre of La Rioja Province, Argentina. It was designated a provincial reserve in 1975, a national park in 1997, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.
Note: the park also covers the northwestern corner of the Independencia Department (https://www.mindat.org/loc-239738.html).
Elevation: 1,295 m. asl.
Important geological and fossiliferous reserve of Argentina.
Intense erosion acting on these regions slowly destroys the sedimentary layers exposing fossil remains.
Opal, Chalcedony, agates, Wood opal and remains of petrified trees were also found.
