South Pile
Large slag heaps from historic lead smelter operated by the Tasmanian Smelting Company from 1898 to 1909 and 1911-1913.
The slags still have a high content of Pb, Zn and other metals, and trials were made at reprocessing them around 2012, but this was short-lived.
Cavities in the slag can contain various microscopic secondary minerals.
