Tresavean Mine was started as a copper mine at some time in the middle of the 18th century, but had to close before 1800. It was re-opened in the early 19th century and became an important copper producer until 1829. In 1838, the output reached 12,303 tons of copper ore, making it the third largest copper mine in Cornwall.
