Named after Russian mineralogist and crystallographer, Anatoly Nikolaevich Sapozhnikov, Ph.D. (b. 1946).
Isostructural with:
The second mineral with dominant sulfhydryl (hydrosulfide) anion after sulfhydrylbystrite. The first group member with such anion as a species-defining one.
