One of several scattered copper/scheelite deposits in the Bonya area, about 2 kilometres north of the Bonya Mine. There is a small historic pit at Ashmara, the walls stained with malachite.
Scheelite mineralisation at Ashmara is found on a high hill, and adjacent ridge. The Petra deposit borders the scheelite mineralisation on the ridge. The 300 metre long ridge and hill is a completely folded structure, near prominent exposed amphibolite. Scheelite grades are low, with isolated high grade patches near its periphery, with also some rich patches assocated with quartz blows 30 metres to the north.
Copper is found lower in the stratigraphic sequence at Ashmara, in garnet quartzite, calc-silicate rock, and quartz, while tungsten mineralisation is found higher associated with amphibolite and calc-silicate rock.
The stratigraphy at Ashmara from the surface down is 1)phenocryst aggregate
amphibolite, then 2)thin layer of quartz-epidote-garnet rock, 3) epidotised amphibolite, 4) then 2 again, 5) then 1 again 6) thin layer of biotite schist, 7) epidote calc-silicate, 8) then 2 again.
