Colour: medium to deep greenish-blue in thin section; presumably black or near black in bulk hand sample.
Description: In thin section, occurs as pleochroic greenish-blue masses with tavorite, triphylite and other phosphates. Analyzed by EPMA; B estimated from stoichiometry. Permissible Fe3+/∑Fe ranges from 0.000 to 0.115 (i.e. "Z"-site oxygen from 0.45 to maximum 1.00 apfu). Sufficient Al is already present in the "D"-site that any estimated Fe3+/∑Fe value between 0.03 and 0.115 yields "Z"-site oxygen > 0.50 apfu, corresponding to an oxy-schorl composition. Note that "Z"-site and "D"-site are mindat-specific site designations.

Description: Detailed investigation of an intermediate member of the reddingite–phosphoferrite series, using infrared and Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and electron microprobe analysis, has been carried out on a homogeneous sample from a lithium-bearing pegmatite named Cigana mine, near Conselheiro Pena, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The determined formula is (Mn1.60Fe1.21Ca0.01Mg0.01)∑2.83(PO4)2.12⋅(H2O2.85F0.01)∑2.86 indicating predominance in the reddingite member. (Frost et al. 2012) However, more recent investigations (2013) have indicated that all the "reddingites" from here are correianevesites (see http://www.mindat.org/mesg-25-290977.html).
