Active magnesite quarry located near the Spain - France border. The dolomite specimens found (up to 10 cm) are among the best in the world. In the quarry also black shales with uncommon phosphates appear.

ⓘ 'Apatite' Formula: Ca5(PO4)3(Cl/F/OH) |
ⓘ Aragonite Formula: CaCO3 Habit: fan-shaped aggregates up to 10 cm, with individual crystals reaching up to 4 cm. In some cases, the aragonite crystals show sharp terminal faces, but acicular crystals with cloudy terminations are most common. Colour: colourless; white to brown |
✪ Bariosincosite Formula: Ba(VO)2(PO4)2 · 4H2O Habit: Divergent sprays of very thin rectangular crystals. Colour: pale green |
ⓘ Baryte Formula: BaSO4 |
ⓘ Cacoxenite Formula: Fe3+24AlO6(PO4)17(OH)12 · 75H2O |
ⓘ Calcite Formula: CaCO3 Description: Calcite is very rare, occurring in small quantities with dolomite and as small crystals in geodes. The material named "calcita" by miners is actually dolomite. |
ⓘ Chalcocite Formula: Cu2S |
ⓘ Chalcopyrite Formula: CuFeS2 Description: Small crystals of chalcopyrite up to 5 mm in size have been found, associated with dolomite crystals. Some crystals have a superficial coating of chalcocite. Small masses up to 2 cm across are sometimes found scattered through massive dolomite. |
ⓘ Crandallite Formula: CaAl3(PO4)(PO3OH)(OH)6 Description: The crandallite pseudomorph after fluellite crystals are locally abundant |
✪ Dolomite Formula: CaMg(CO3)2 Habit: Rhombohedrons to 20cm Colour: pale gray Description: The best crystals were produced in the late 1960's. |
ⓘ Evansite Formula: Al3(PO4)(OH)6 · 6H2O |
✪ Fluellite Formula: Al2(PO4)F2(OH) · 7H2O References: |
ⓘ Goethite Formula: α-Fe3+O(OH) Habit: botryoidal crusts and masses in fissures in dolomite |
ⓘ Graphite Formula: C Description: Graphite occurs as a component of carbonaceous matter which forms thin seams separating magnesite strata. In some areas, it forms lustrous layers of pure graphite. |
ⓘ 'Limonite' |
ⓘ Magnesite Formula: MgCO3 |
ⓘ Malachite Formula: Cu2(CO3)(OH)2 Description: At least two habits of malachite have been found at the Eugui quarries. Pseudomorphs after chalcopyrite crystals to 3mm have been found, some of them hollow and filled with limonite. Well-formed malachite crystals to 4mm have also been found, in parallel growth. |
ⓘ Mcguinnessite Formula: (Mg,Cu)2(CO3)(OH)2 |
ⓘ Metavariscite Formula: AlPO4 · 2H2O |
ⓘ Minyulite Formula: KAl2(PO4)2F · 4H2O |
ⓘ Montgomeryite Formula: Ca4MgAl4(PO4)6(OH)4 · 12H2O |
ⓘ Phosphosiderite Formula: FePO4 · 2H2O |
ⓘ 'Pinolite' |
ⓘ Pseudomalachite Formula: Cu5(PO4)2(OH)4 |
ⓘ Pyrite Formula: FeS2 Description: Pyrite microcrystals occur in the carbonaceous seams between magnesite strata. Rare dolomite crystals can be seen to contain a myriad of minute pyrite pyritohedrons as inclusions. Pyrite crystals up to about 5mm are known. |
ⓘ Quartz Formula: SiO2 |
ⓘ Siderite Formula: FeCO3 References: |
ⓘ Sphalerite Formula: ZnS |
ⓘ 'Tetrahedrite Subgroup' Formula: Cu6(Cu4C2+2)Sb4S12S Description: Rare crystals up to 5 mm have been found on dolomite crystals |
ⓘ 'Wad' Description: Unidentified manganese oxides occur as thin films on dolomite crystals |
