Latitude & Longitude (WGS84):
30° 0' 15'' South , 120° 34' 7'' East
Latitude & Longitude (decimal):

Mulwarrie is 10 kilometres north-west of Davyhurst, bordering the Mulline-Davyhurst Road. Paddy Higgins set off from Coolgardie in 1895, and discovered gold here. Several mines developed along the Mulwarrie line of lode, which borders the road mentioned above.

Initially the location was known as Mount Higgins, but the town gazetted in 1900 was called Mulwarrie, aboriginal in original, but an un-known meaning. It could also relate to Mulwarrie on the Victorian goldfields. The town contained two hotels, a police station and several businesses. After the Mulwarrie mine closed in 1906, the town went into a severe and terminal decline. Nothing remains to be seen today of the town.

Mining generally ceased by the World War One years. Minor interest by companies was seen in the field in the 1930's. Pancontinental Mining Ltd explored the area from 1983 to 1988. In 1989, Callion Mining Pty Ltd developed a small pit 36 metres deep and 150 metres across, it called the Mulwarrie Central Pit. This borders the west side of the Davyhurst-Mulline Road, and is about where the old Mulwarrie mine was along the line of lode. The company produced 40 000 tonnes of ore for 68 000 ounces of gold. Consolidated Gold NL explored the area in 1996.

Gold is found in altered medium grained amphibolite. The lode length is about 4 kilometres from the historic Pride of the Hills Mine in the north to Mulwarrie South, running north-south, bordering the Davyhurst-Mulline Road.

The former state battery site is about 3 kilometres south-east of the Mulwarrie town site. It is not near the road, and is difficult to get to. A rough track heads north several kilometres to it from the Waihi pits at Davyhurst.
