Stockwork copper orebodies hosted in sandstones. Stratiform black shale-hosted SEDEX-type Pb-Zn ores occur in the northwestern part of the deposit (orebody no. 70).
Apart from base metal sulphides, the deposit contains Co-Ni sulfoarsenides, minor amounts of Bi-, Ag-, and Pb-selenides and tellurides. , reaching up to 1553 meters at level 45.

The Matahambre ore field includes the Nieves, Mella, Matahambre and Cuerpo 70 deposits, as well as other minor occurrences. Some deposits (Matahambre, Cuerpo 70 and Mella) are hosted in rocks of the San Cayetano Fo rmation; other, such as the Nieves deposit, are hosted in the basal portion of Late Jurassic series.

The coordinates are general for the mining area.
