Gold deposit, located in the southwest part of the St Ives camp. Gold was discovered nearby at the N75 Fault between 1910 to 1920, very limited development took place. Gold mineralisation was discovered by Western Mining Corporation in 1983, but initially misinterpreted as transported gold. The lode was not found until 1986.
It is a typical structurally controlled quartz vein gold deposit. It is hosted by the 450 metre thick Junction Dolerite, which lies in the Black Flag Beds. The dolerite has four zones:
1. 100-120 metre thick medium grained equigranular pyroxene cumulate dominated by amphibole after orthopyroxene. The Junction and N75 Faults are well developed as wide mylonitic zones but carrying little gold.
2. 120-150 metre thick amphibole after pyroxene, but with increased levels of albite, often hosting gold along the faults.
3. 50-80 metres thick medium grained granophyre (25%) with 10-15% magnetite, hosting the most gold.
4. 100-130 metre medium to coarse grained dolerite.
The Junction and N75 Faults strike north-west and dip moderately east.
Most of the gold is found between two pinch lines where the Junction Fault intersects the upper and lower contacts of the Junction Dolerite. The main mineralised zone has an assemblage of quartz-albite-dolomite-biotite-chlorite-pyrrhotite (or pyrite), with an alteration halo dominated by chlorite. Gold is closely associated with the sulphides near the biotite-albite alteration margins of quartz carbonate veins.
Above the deposit is a regolith of residual soil, lateritic material, mottled clays and saprolite, with quartz veins associated with the Junction Fault. Two 15 metre thick, north-east trending palaeochannels, are well exposed in the eastern wall of the pit. They contain anomalous gold which decreases at depth.
