Discovered and developed by J. Mitchell in the early 1920's. The government geologist who inspected the mine stated specimens being raised were the richest he had ever seen. However, these came from a small section where a spur reef joined the main reef. The reef generally was small and narrowed at depth. Mitchell mainly dollied small amounts to 1928, when the reef gave out and he abandoned the shaft. Some ore was placed in a dump, but due to copious sulphides, the ore decomposed.
The lease was 6 acres (GML 1196). In 1923, the shaft was down to 20 feet, with a drive 35 feet north, and a triangular stoped section about 70 feet square. Rough ragged gold could be seen in the face of the reef. The surface contained two dumps, one about 40 tonnes. The reef trended north-west and dipped 60 degrees east.
When next inspected in 1924, the shaft was down to 80 feet. The reef was showing as 20 inches wide near the surface and 8 inches at the bottom. The reef was white quartz, with a little chlorite along joints and parting planes. Both walls were encased with highly sheared rock. The geologist notes gold is becoming poorer at depth. The reef is much shattered and jointed. There is much gypsum at the surface and the hanging wall side.
To 1924 the mine had produced 460.94 oz, most from specimen stone. However further small amounts of gold were dollied until 1928. In 1927 48.5 tonnes crushed for 394.95 oz, and 1928 48 tonnes 267.27oz. The lease was worked by Mitchell and un-named mining partner.
There is little evidence of the mine remaining.
