A former Pb-Ag occurrence/mine located in the SE¼W½ sec. 19, and in the NW¼ sec. 30, T11S, R20E, SBM, 4.8 km (3.0 miles) WSW of Midway Well (3.5 miles NE of Mount Barrow). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. Operated during the periods 1919-1921, 1922-1923 (tailings cyanided) & 1938-1939.
Mineralization is hosted in schist. The ore body strikes N35-65E and dips 65-75NW at a width of 12.8 meters. Deposit is parallel to the foliation in the schist. Sparse blue copper staining occurs in parts. Local rocks include Tertiary intrusive rocks (hypabyssal), unit 6 (Southern Mojave Desert).
Workings include underground openings comprised of the Paymaster 325 foot inclined shaft. A 125 foot long, 8 to 15 foot wide stope extends to surface. A 450 foot inclined shaft was sunk on the President. It has levels every 50 feet and 1,000 feet of horizontal workings. The Hazel has a 50 foot and 100 foot shafts with undetermined horizontal workings.
Production information: 25,000 tons of ore valued at $170,000 (period values). 50% error possible on tonnage estimate and value.
