Alluvioni aurifere del torrente Elvo, Provincia di Biella, Piemonte, Italia

Elvo stream is one of the most important sites for the search of alluvial gold in the Po Plain. Alluvial gold deposits in fine sediments are located along the stream banks in the municipal territories of Mongrando, Borriana, Cerrione, and Salussola.

Gold is found as minute particles, small nuggets and seldom as grains attached to a quartz matrix. Its average composition is: 93.9 wt% Au, 4.2 wt% Ag, 1.9 wt% other metals.

The mineral described as native nickel by A. Sella (1891), according to the reported analysis, is now considered awaruite.

The Elvo stream alluvials are very fine places to experience the natural environment: there are birds and fishes, sun and quietness. Every year, the Elvo stream alluvials are frequented by hundreds of gold searchers.
