Filone Cobbio
Polymetallic vein located near the ruins of Baita di Cobbio, to the east of Casa Alpina Pio X, along the path leading from Bocca di Biadino to Passo Camisolo. It was exploited in the second half of the 19th century by the companies La Virginia and The Camisolo Mines Ltd. Some trenches and short adits are still observable along the path.
This lode outcrops in various points in the area between Camisolo and Valbona (Baita Cobbio locality).
The lode, with a regular development and with an average thickness of 40 cm, is composed mainly by massive sulfides in baryte-siderite gangue. The principal sulfides of the mineralization, usually altered, are chalcopyrite, argentiferous tetrahedrite and galena, with sphalerite as an accessory mineral. The upper part of the lode is characterized by widespread arsenopyrite and pyrite veins in quartz gangue, often altered in iron hydroxides and arsenates like scorodite. The lode was the object of a limited mining research, with excavation of small galleries and a 50 m long trench. Secondary minerals are very common in the dump and in the mine works; they are represented mainly by azurite, cerussite, covellite and malachite, with various sulfates, arsenates and antimoniate of Cu, Fe and Pb.
