Manganese oxide deposit. The pyrophanite is Fe-bearing.

The Conta História deposit consists of a 2–7 m thick, concordant, manganese-rich layer (30–45% Mn) enveloped by a hard, compact, but extensively fractured, seam of goethite in both the hanging- and the footwall.
