Tinogasta is a western department of Catamarca Province in Argentina.

The provincial subdivision has an area of 23,582 km² (9,105 sq mi), and its capital city is Tinogasta, which is located around 1,415 km (879 mi) from Buenos Aires.

Uraniferous manifestations of the Tinogasta district:
About 20 kilometers west of the town of Tinogasta, Catamarca, northbound runs roughly N-S, a strip of yellowish, radioactive, calcareous Shales which extends from La Higuerita to the North, to the Colorado River to the South. These sediments are part of a complex of sandstones and clays reddish to purple, very disturbed, possibly to the Upper Tertiary.
Over cited run yellow Shales are demonstrations of:
"Helios", "La Higuerita", "La Flecha", "Bonanza", "Concepción", "La Cieneguita", "Los Colorados"; in some of them, by work in mines, found the existence of local concentrations of Carnotite, mineral which lines join planes and said Shales fractures.
Accumulations are not continuous, rarely over 100 meters of extension and although thicknesses with low-grade impregnation can reach several meters, useful powers are confined to 1 - 1.5 m, with average 0.04 laws % U3O8 registering sectors of enrichment with up to 0.3% U3O8.
Similar to the described events there are North of the aforementioned bullfight, in the vicinity of the field of Chasquivil.
