A former underground Ag-Au-Cu occurrence with underground workings located on the east side of the east fork of Madera Canyon, 1½ miles north of Littleshot Camp, on a piedmont ridge at the NW base of Old Baldy and the foot of the Old Baldy fault scarp, about 13 airline miles NNW of Patagonia, at an elevation of 6,350 feet. Discovered in 1903 by Mr. W.P. Scott. Owned by the Madera Copper Co. of Los Angeles (circa 1915).
Mineralization consists of croppings of a north-south 10 foot thick lamprophyric porphyry dike in micaceous quartz schist. Both the dike and the schist seem to be parallel-jointed. The joint planes are coated with limonite and malachite and the schist contains much epidote and garnet along the contact.
Ore consists only of stringers of malachite-stained rock in a few places and some small bunches or pockets of amphibolite with dark green epidote and a little barite, contasining besides the malachite a little pyrite and chalcopyrite. At 150 feet in from the tunnel portal a 12 foot wide shear zone of soft, altered material contains stringers of copper-stained calcite and quartz.
The later mine development supposedly encountered the Copper Queen vein.
Workings include a 175 foot long tunnel driven southeastward about 100 feet below the croppings. Later development constituted a total of some 3,000 feet of workings, including the upper and lower tunnels, with the lower tunnel now being 700 feet long. No production record.
