Ore mineralisation exposed ca. 25 m stratigraphically above the cephalopod bank, where the Gorz trail crosses the upper part of Bletterbach.
The succession consists of several cycles of fine grained clastics with intercalated, coarse channel sandstones which cut into the supratidal flat. Near the margins of the channels the sandstones contain large lenses of washed in branchlets and other plant debris. The ore concentrations are bound to these lenses of coalified plant matter.
According to Niedermayr & Niedermayr (1983), sphalerite from this occurrence is pratically Fe-free.
