In the vicinity of the towns of Bruntál and Opava are remnants of small volcanoes, pyroclastic cones and lava flows, with rare dikes and a possible pipe (Ulrych et al. 2013). The majority of occurrences are in an area of c. 16 x 12 km just to the south of Bruntál.
Nízký Jeseník (German: Niederes Gesenke, Polish: Niski Jesionik) is a geomorphological unit and flat highlands in the north of Moravia and in the southern part of Silesia. It is the largest mountain range in the Czech Republic (2876 km²). It spreads in Moravia and Silesia, in the Moravian-Silesian and Olomouc regions (in the districts of Bruntál, Nový Jičín, Olomouc, Opava, Ostrava-město and Přerov). The name Jeseník is derived from the German "Gesenke" -slope. A substantial part of the Low Jeseník is managed by the Libavá Military District.
