A former small surface and underground Mn-Cu-Zn claim/mine located in the North-central sec. 22, T.23S., R.24E., SE of the Briggs shaft, along the E side of state highway 92, on private land. This property consists of five contiguous claims known as the New Era, Cochise, Top Gallant, Illinois, and the Nellie, which cover an area about 1500 feet E-W and 1000 feet N-S. These claims are part of property once held by the Calumet and Arizona Mining Co. and are now owned by Phelps Dodge Corp. Discovered 1918. Owned at times, or in part, by the Calumet & Arizona Mining Co. and the Phelps Dodge Corp.

Mineralization is hard psilomelane in irregular masses and lenses along fractures in Naco Group limestone. The limestone is dipping East and the ore occurs as a replacement of a single bed near dikes and sills, and faulting associated with brecciation. There are at least 10 separate fissures on the property, dtrike northward and are vertical, and cut eastward, dipping beds of Naco Limestone. Ore bodies range from 2 to 6 feet in width and from 20 to 60 feet long. Fissures contain irregular masses and lenses of ore for several hundred feet along strike, and others for a few tens of feet only. It is variable in thickness to a maximum of 4 feet. Ore concentration was bornite replacing pyrite. Alteration was gossan with Mn and Fe oxides induced by hydrothermal metamorphism. An associated rock unit is the Sacramento Hill Stock.

Local structures include a pre-mineralization faults striking N10W to N40E and S30W to N50W. Pre-mineralization faulting and tilting common.

Workings are surface openings. Mined by shallow open cuts scattered along parts of the fissures. The deepest work consisted of 2 shafts about 25 feet deep. About 1,000 tons or more of sorted manganese oxides were produced in 1917-1918.
