ⓘ Orpiment ? Formula: As2S3 Description: Mentioned by D'Achiardi (1905) as an alteration product of realgar, in the form of thin yellow scales and orange-yellow spots on the former. The yellow to yellow-orange mineral mentioned by this author, and later by other authors, is actually pararealgar (orpiment cannot derive from the alteration of realgar, that usually alters into pararealgar). Consequently, the occurrence of orpiment from the marble cavities of this locality has to be considered as questionable (Biagioni et al., 2019). References: |
ⓘ Pararealgar Formula: As4S4 Description: The thin yellow scales and orange-yellow spots on realgar, mentioned by D'Achiardi (1905) as orpiment, are ascribable to pararealgar (Biagioni et al., 2019). References: |
