Sjangeli is the middle one of 3 Cu-deposits located close to the Swedish-Norwegian border (south to north; Unna Alakats, Sjangeli, Valfojokk). The mineralized area is approx. 5 km in length. Three different kind of mineralizations occur:
i) stratiform lenses;
ii) discordant veins and metasomatized contact zones which both are enriched with bornite, chalcocite in basic metatuffs;
iii) contain chalcopyrite and form crack-fillings in amphibolites.
Sjangeli has unsuccessfully been mined during different periods (early 1700's, middle of 18th & 19th centuries and at the end of the 19th century). Total ore area in the 3 places are approx. 200 square meters.
Sjangeli is about 40 km from Narvik (Norway) and 100 km from Kiruna (birdsroute). It can be reached by foot (40 km) either from Abisko or Riksgränsen stations along the Rd 98.
