INTRODUCTION
Caves in limestone - Cuchillo Curá system:
The Cuchillo Curá cave system is the further development of Argentina, but its importance also lies in the large fauna register comprising 19 new species of fauna troglobia and the archaeological record consisting of lithic material, ceramic remains and manifestations of rock art in the cave of the kids. Currently, it is part of the protected Natural Area, created by provincial Decree No. 0161 of the year 2003.
This system is located in the foothills of the homonymous lace, Picunches Department, about 10 kilometers from the city of Las Lajas by national route Nº 40. Its central point is located at 38°36'47.42"South and 70°23'14.41" West, at an average height of 920.35 meters above the sea level.
The sedimentary sequence corresponds to the joint formations Tábanos, Lotena, La Manga and Auquilco, being that La Manga Formation this least karstic processes host unit.
It consists in this town of 18 meters of grey limestones, stratified, composed of banks of 2 meters thick, reaching 3.5 meters in the upper levels. Petrographically, it is composed of packstones and graywacke that under a microscope can be classified as biomicrites and oomicrites with oointramicrites subordinate. Toward the ceiling of the study package, isolated banks of finely laminated mudstones and the presence of a limestone gap of reddish colour exhibiting clasts up to 30 cm in a micritic matrix with patches of recrystallization of sparite are observed.
The sequence studied presents course 75th and tipped 22° North. It corresponds to the northern flank of an Anticline of course NE, which at the height of the cave system turn on Jan by the effects of the control socket. On this structure were measured fault systems conjugate of vertical planes and directions 80° and 180°, 32° and 130° and N-S, which were interpreted as a relief from such regional folding structures. The presence of faults, oriented to the NNW and levógiro course components, is associated with the remarkable change of course presenting the axis of the Anticline in the sector of the least by the effect of ancient rift faults. This set of faults and joints has been instrumental in the integration and evolution of the Karst, controlling water infiltration coefficient as well as the design of the galleries.
The cave system is composed of 4 cavities: Cueva de Los Cabritos (83.10 meters), cavern El Arenal (837.60 partial m.), cavern El Templo (1,827.00 partial m.), cavern El Gendarme (1,691.18 meters), these latest connected among themselves. Overall total 4,438.88 total meters so it constitutes the system of further development of the country. Each cavity is branched in secondary galleries, less developed, whose course coincides with the southern fault, orthogonal layout to the axis of regional folding.
