Named in 1981 by Bozidar Darko Sturman, Donald R. Peacor, and Pete J. Dunn in honor of Frederick John Wicks (b. 1937), Curator of Mineralogy of the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto, and a specialist in the investigations of the serpentine-group minerals.
Type Locality:
Wicksite Group. The M(3)Fe analogue of maneckiite. A possible Mn analogue is coded as 'UM1985-09-PO:CaFeHMn'.
