The Dawn of Hope Gold Mine is 5 kilometres north of Leonora, and is marked (or at least in the vicinity) of a tiny shallow open pit immediately north of the large Trump open pit, and within the surrounding bund of this mine.
Historically it was probably opened around 1897 along with other mines in the area, but information was only found from 1900 to 1920. It was always a prospector show, with a succession of owners, the list below probably not complete.
The Eascott brothers 1907, J Neville 1908, Holden and Richardson 1916.
Between 1912 and 1914, the mine was known as The Federal Mint worked by Heron, Williamson, and Dawson (surnames). When the neighbouring Ping Pong mine stopped pumping water, a heavy inflow came into the Dawn of Hope. A pump was installed, but the water won and the prospectors abandoned the mine. Greenwood and Nagy (surnames) then sank a new shaft to the north-west of the old one.
In 1919, The Gwalia Central Company took out a 3 month option over the mine. From 1917 to 1920, J.A. Deerson and Smith were operating the mine.
