A former W mine located in secs. 2 & 11, T3S, R19E, MDM, 3.2 km (2.0 miles) WSW of Buena Vista, on National Forest land. The property consisted of several claims. Operated by the Incline Mining Co., Lee Cuneo, L. Barribotti et al. Operated in 1954, 1955 & 1956 (per U.S. Bureau of Mines Minerals Yearbook, volumes 3 for those years). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters. In 1957, this group was under lease to the Incline Mining Co.
NOTE: There are 5 USGS MRDS database files which pertain to this locality. File #10103527 contains a major error by stating that this occurrence is located in Inyo County, contradicting the other 4 files, and providing coordinates placing it in Inyo County. Otherwise, this same file presents the correct T&R value for the correct Mariposa County location, as well other correct data.
Mineralization is hosted in limestone. The ore body strike N30W and dips 70NE. Some scheelite occurs in granodiorite, which intrudes the limestone. The principal mineral in the tactite is quartz, with subordinate calcite, garnet, epidote, pyrrhotite, scheelite, tremolite and wollastonite. The ore averages about 0.75% W. An associated rock is hornblendite. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada) and/or Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include surface and underground openings with a length of 45.72 meters, and comprised of an upper tunnel with several galleries striking N55E, about 1200 feet long (1954). A second tunnel was driven SE about 65 feet below the main tunnel. It is about 50 feet long.
No production figures reported.
Some ore was produced and milled during 1955, before the November-December floods washed out the road to the mine. Operations were scheduled to continue later in the spring of 1956 (outcome undocumented).
Analytical data results: Ore averaged 0.75% WO3.
