Charles Huskon #3; Huskon #3

A former U-V-Mo-Cu occurrence/mine located in the W-central sec. 7, T28N, R1OE, and in E-central sec. 12, T28N, R9E, G&SRM, 7.9 km (4.9 miles) SSE of Cameron, 1.7 miles W of the Little Colorado River, near the Huskon No. 10 Mine. Discovered by Charles Huskon. The USGS MRDS database stated accuracy for this locality is 1,000 meters.

Mineralization is uraninite, uranophane & carnotite with gangue minerals in elliptical and saucer shaped ore bodies hosted in Late Triassic mudstone of the Petrified Forest Member of the Chinle Formation. The ore body is 30.48 meters wide and 304.8 meters long. Alteration is comprised of halos of jarosite, hydrous iron oxides and sericitized feldspar and an increase of Mo near the ore. Uranium is concentrated in the lower part of sandy/silty lenses in 250 foot by 20 foot scours, some near fossil wood. The highest grade is at the base of the scours in carbonaceous material. Carnotite, and possibly autunite, are uniformly distributed in narrow, lens-like bodies in the lower part of a scour and fill channel, trending NE to E and in, and in the lower Petrified Forest Member and into the Shinarump Member. The ore zone is 100 feet wide and over 1,000 feet long and is associated with abundant carbonaceous matter. Some minor faulting occurred through the ore body. Local rocks include rocks of the Shinarump Conglomerate Member, Chinle Formation.

Workings include surface openings comprised of an open pit.

Production was 27,249 tons of ore @ 0.20% U3O8; 0.02% V2O5 (1953-1961).
