Large open-cast coal mine on the northern outcrop of the south Wales coalfield. Many specimens were recovered from joint surfaces in thick (1-1.5 m) sandstones layered between shales and coal seams exposed in the late 1990s. Ankerite and quartz was particularly common, other minerals much less so.
The original 1990s opencast has subsequently been backfilled and a second massive opencast working the same beds has been opened close by.
