Name(s) in local language(s):
Vulcanello (Baia di Levante), Isola di Vulcano, Lipari, Isole Eolie, Provincia di Messina, Sicilia, Italia
Altered and silicified basanitic pyroclastic rocks.
In the literature, the locality is generally described under the cumulative toponym of "Baia di Levante" which means the small gulf where the port is located (see also Faraglione Nico and Faraglione Ranni Mindat localities).
Panichi (1914) classified as "kalinite" a mineral appearing as an asbestous felt or a white compact furlike coating, consisting of an assembly of fibres of variable length with a slightly sericeous lustre, in association with alunogen, gypsum, salammoniac, and other sulfates. According to Campostrini et al. (2011), "kalinite" of Panichi is verisimilarly a mixture of alum-K, pickeringite, and gypsum.
