Muttlkogel, Zangtaler Revier, Braunkohlelagerstätte Köflach - Voitsberg, Köflach, Steiermark, Österreich
Secondary minerals resulting from a formerly burning coal seam.
Summary of Walter & Postl (1983):
"Recently some rare sulfates could be found beside α-sulfur in an area of pyroschists during exploratory work at the Muttlkogel in the coal district of Zangtal near Voitsberg, Styria, Austria. Ammoniojarosite, NH4Fe33+(OH)6(S04)2 and voltaite, K2Fe52+Fe33+Al(SO4)12.18H2O, were studied in detail. The results of X-ray and IR-spectroscopical studies are given."
Note on the mineral list: Walter and Postl (1983) also report "white extremely small/thin acicular crystals whose identity could not be determined because of the small size of the available sample."
GPS coordinates are currently provisionally set to the "Ehemaliger Bergbau Zangtal" ("Former Zangtal Mine").
