Since the early 1990s, the sea defenses along the coastline of Norfolk, a county previously largely devoid of mineral interest, have been bolstered by the installation of hundreds of blocks of rock.
Mostly, these are of the Larvikite syenite type.
Although many of the blocks have been doing their intended job and are now buried in sand, many also remain at least partially visible and some of these contain pegmatites which afford the opportunity to study the macromineralogy of this handsome rock.
At the time of writing (April 2004), further blocks were being shipped-in by barge and used to reinforce groynes in the Horsey to Waxham area.
The grid reference given is for the coast at Horsey Corner where much of this work has been executed.
