Mindigi Mine
A copper mine, locally very rich in cobalt, worked from an open cut during the 1930s and 1940s without fully exploiting the deposit. The mine is known for having yielded the first reasonable specimens of cobaltoan calcite. Located 5 km E of Swambo.
Note: Many misspelled labels exist with only one "n" in the name. See Lhoest (1989) for specifics and map concerning this location.

ⓘ Clinoclase Formula: Cu3(AsO4)(OH)3 Description: The story about the clinoclase from Mindingi goes that the first specimens where found on a small dump.
That dump was often used as camping ground by the collectors who came to visit the mine.
One day, there was a heavy rain and a not specified collector dug a little trench around his tent to keep it dry. There he found the clinoclase.
No specimens where found in the mine itself so it's a mistery were they where found in the deposit. References: |
