Structure: Bullfrog Detachment Fault. Listric Normal Fault In The Upper Plate Of The Bullfrog Detachment Fault.
Alteration: See Comments
Tectonics: Within Timber Mountain Caldera Complex And Bare Mountain-Bullfrog Hills Metamorphic Core Complex. Also Within Walker Lane Structural Zone.
Commodity: Au occurs As micron size free grains in quartz-calcite-adularia veins and quartz stockworks. Common fluorite and barite. Trace chalcopyrite, tetrahedrite, sphalerite, galena.
Deposit type: Epithermal vein, Comstock
Development: A "blind" discovery using an exploration model based on the ore controls at the nearby montgomery-shoshone mine. This model required brittle-deforming rocks to provide open spaces for gold deposition from hydrothermal solutions that migrated up along listric normal faults from the detachment fault. Bond gold bullfrog was 99% talus covered. Only two small outcrops of stockwork veining were found after discovery. The discovery drill hole was the thirteenth hole in the area. The only geochemical clue at surface to the existence of the orebody was a dump sample from a 20 ft. Deep prospect pit. This sample assayed 190 ppb gold. The prospect pit missed the ore zone by 35 ft.
Geology: Welded rhyolitic tuffs of timber mtn caldera host ore.
Ore(s): Gold Deposition Controlled By Middle Plate Fault (Listric Normal Fault) In Upper Plate Of Bullfrog Detachment Fault And Appears To Be Related To Magmatic Activity Of The Timber Mountain Caldera Complex. Significant Mineralization In The Bullfrog District Is Confined To A 2 Mile Wide Zone Immediately North Of And Along The Trace Of The Bullfrog Detachment Fault, Indicating That Proximity To The Detachment Fault Is An Ore Control.
