Recovered weight: ?, ca. 600 g preserved
Iron, IAB-MG
Found about 1850 by a farmer in a field near Miller's Run, a creek which runs southwest-northeast and reaches the larger Chartiers Creek at Bridgeville, 12 km southwest of the centre of Pittsburgh. According to Buchwald (1975), the recovered mass could weigh somewhere between 12 and 16 kg. Probably, it may have weighed 29 pounds (13.2 kg). It appears that the finder gave the material to a nearby blacksmith; part of it, totaling about 1 kg, was acquired by Professor Silliman at Yale College, while the remaining part was forged into a bar. Small samples were distributed from Yale around the world. Apparently only about 600 g is preserved today in collections.
