A semimassive to massive layer of pyrite with subordinate chalcopyrite and sphalerite hosted by felsic metavolcanic rocks and overlain by banded tuffite. The ore layer has an extent of ca. 450 m and has a thickness of generally less than 2 m but occassionally of up to 4 m. During the last period of mining, some of the ore showed contents of up to 1.8% Cu and 5.3% Zn. Some Au-enrichments of 1 ppm and locally even higher were found in later analyses.
The mine was possibly operated by the Merakergodset company in 1901 and 1904-05, and by the A/S Meraker Gruber in 1907-09 and 1913-18. A total of 100 Kt of ore was produced.
The deposit was the subject of further study in 1975 by the NGU/Elkem-Spigerverket A/S, in 1985 by BP, and in 1991 and 1992-93 by the NGU.
Apart from the main locality, a sub-locality Storbekken is listed: 63.3763690,11.6495850. This is possibly an extension of the main ore zone.
