Forsta Umbra oil well was drilled in 1964 by AGIP to a depth of 5912 m.

At the drill site, the lithostratigraphic units comprise a Cretaceous calcareous dolostone 150 m thick, a Jurassic dolostone extending down to 3015 m depth, and the Upper Triassic dolostone and evaporite sequence (known as Burano Evaporite or Anidriti di Burano Formation) down to 5912 m. The Burano Evaporite Formation is here represented by a thick sequence of meter- to decameter-scale interbeds of anhydrite and dolostones with two halite beds.
