Dartmoor Granite interleaved with its country rock roof (and with the latter as xenoliths) are exposed as scattered outcrops and loose fragments at Leusdon Common, particularly on the east side of the road.
Reid et al. (1912) noted "the locality is easily found and is one of the best in the south-west of England for cordierite-bearing rocks; its proximity to the high road enables a heavy load of material to be easily carried away."
The location is now a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
