Wilson's Reef is a gold bearing quartz vein 200 metres long, 0.3 to 1.5 metres wide, historically up to 35 g/t gold, but averaging 10 g/t. The veins sub-vertically outcrop, but pinch and swell at depth.
They are glassy limonitic quartz veins carrying gold, and minor galena, pyrite and chalcopyrite, the sulphides locally massive in lenses.
Historic workings here date from the 1890's. The area was mapped by the government in 1938. Picklands Mather held the leases in the 1960's, and conducted some minor sampling. In 1980, Argosy Mines NL acquired the leases. From 1983 to 1988, Southern Ventures explored Wilson's Reef, finding sheared gossanous quartz vein stockworks, with anomalous values.
The site is estimated to contain 2500 tonnes of ore averaging 8.59 g/t Au, 7.92 g/t Ag, 0.32% Pb and 0.25% Zn.
